Hi there! I’m Briana!

I’m a Knitwear Designer, Rock Climber, Traveler, and Cat Lover based in Fort Collins, Colorado.

I have been creating things for as long as I can remember. I took to crocheting and sewing first, both crafts I watched my mother do as a young child. I grew up in the foothills of Virginia’s Appalachian Mountains, a beautiful but relatively poor area. We did not have many resources, and my mother sewed many of our clothes and crocheted our blankets and home textiles. For us, making was more than just a hobby; it was a necessary way of life.

Somewhere around middle school, I acquired a pair of knitting needles and checked out a knitting book from the library. I don’t remember actually creating anything at that point, but knitting lingered in the back of my mind. It was something I would pick up here and there and play with; a skill I wanted to one day master, but not one that I yet had the drive to dive into.

In high school, I happened upon a b&w photograph of a pair of Sanquhar gloves while sitting on the floor of the library’s craft section. The only problem was that the book was in Japanese! Despite the language barrier, I was immediately smitten with the design, and I decided that it was time to get serious about this knitting thing so that I could make a pair of these beautiful gloves for myself! I checked the book out and pulled together money to buy a set of 00 double-pointed knitting needles. Despite struggling through a foreign language and confusing diagrams, I managed to knit my very first pair of Sanquhar gloves, using orange and cream lace-weight wool gifted to me by my high school boyfriend’s mom. I still have those gloves! Check out my Ravelry project page if you’re curious :)

Over the next two decades, that initial spark turned into a full-fledged knitting design business. I’ve since honed my skills and deepened my love for the craft, but my roots in resourcefulness and making with intention remain the same.

When I’m not knitting, I’m rock climbing & exploring new places. Colorado is my home, and I love all the mountainous and deserty landscapes of the west. These are what inspires my designs.

I translate the textures, colors, and motifs of the wild places I visit into each of my hand knitting patterns.

Oh, and did I mention I’m a cat lover? My sweet girl, Purl, is my trusty adventure buddy and knitting companion. (She’s also a connoisseur of Instagram cat memes 🐱 so feel free to send me your favorites!)

Thanks for stopping by, and happy makingβ€”whatever your craft may be :)
